About
What this site is, and what it isn't
The Play Ledger started from a simple frustration: most casino lists tell you about bonuses and almost nothing about the games themselves.
We compare a small, deliberately short list of UK-licensed casino brands and judge them on what actually ends up on your screen — the studios behind the slots, the live-casino setup, the breadth of the library and how well the whole thing holds together. The brand on the door matters less than the developers stocking the shelves, so that's the angle we lead with.
Independent and affiliate-funded
The Play Ledgeris run independently. We are not a casino, a betting company or a regulator, we don't run any games, and we never take stakes, hold balances or touch player money in any way. We only review and compare. The site is paid for through affiliate commission: when a reader follows one of our links and opens an account, the operator pays us a referral fee at no cost to the reader.
That arrangement funds the work, but it doesn't buy a verdict. Operators can't pay to climb the list or soften how we describe them. Where a site is narrow, dated or only really suited to one type of player, we say so.
How we keep it honest
We check each operator's UK Gambling Commission licence against the public register, name the company that actually holds it, and base the write-ups on the lobbies and game libraries themselves rather than marketing copy. Welcome offers are described as plain data points, never as can't-miss deals, because the terms attached to them are set by the operator and change often.
Who it's for
This is a resource for UK adults who already gamble or are weighing up where to play, and who care more about the games than the sign-up banner. It is not a way to make money, and it is not a substitute for setting your own limits. Gambling should stay entertainment; if it stops feeling that way, the responsible gambling page lists free, independent help.
